OUR STORY

WE ARE OFFICIALLY AND PROUDLY IN LOVE WITH THE COUNTRYSIDE

Gallus is a family business that was born in 2016 driven by the love and dedication to animals. Over the last few years we have been gaining experience and broadening our knowledge in this demanding area of livestock farming, so that we can create the best conditions for our birds. Continuous learning is based on a strong conviction: chickens are our priority because only in this way can we obtain a high-quality product with unique characteristics.

The low density in the barn, but also in the outdoor park, contributes to compliance with animal welfare standards, but above all to low stress levels, contributing to laying values above those referenced for this mode of production. This set of factors allows the instincts and characteristics of the species to be activated.

Texture, color and taste are the main characteristics of our product. The texture is uniform and consistent, resulting in very tasty eggs, with a strong shell and firm yolk, low in cholesterol and high in protein.

Our History

We are a couple that above all loves, respects, and fights daily for the well being of all the animals on the farm, giving them the comfort and freedom they need to be happy.

Since this is a small family business, it allows us to deliver the egg directly to the point of sale without intermediaries, and this guarantees the freshness of the product.

We invest in short distribution chains ensuring that the egg reaches the shelves fresh and at an attractive price for the final consumer. In the future we want to continue the present, focusing on the sustainability of the project.

Our Journey

  • 2016

    The Beginning

    Start of activity. Purchase of incubators and construction of the first hen shelters.

  • 2017

    The first customers

    Opening of the first customers with eggs from the hens born on our farm. Sale of the product in the municipalities of Serpa and Moura.

  • 2018

    The first chicken coop

    Construction of the first chicken coop made by us, in order to guarantee conditions for the chickens, especially during the night due to the existence of predators in the area.

  • 2019

    The new pavilion

    End of the use of the complete rearing system (from incubation) due to the unfeasibility of the process. Purchase of pullets already at the beginning of laying, with vaccination plan and salmonella analysis. We made several visits to other industrial-scale farms, attended conferences and broadened our knowledge in the area through research and reading scientific articles in specialized journals.

    Planting trees in parks for protection and shade and applying organic matter from our chickens. Manual labeling of boxes. Participation in street markets to promote the product. Start of construction work on the new pavilion.

  • 2020

    The classification center

    Improving the conditions of the chicken coop, in particular with regard to its air conditioning but also its extension. Construction of nests to avoid eggs on the ground, dirty and broken. Completion of the new pavilion at the beginning of the year. Assembly of equipment/filling of the hall. Construction and respective licensing of the classification center. At the end of the year the first flock of pullets came in.

  • 2021

    The collective nests

    Acquisition of collective nests with manual collection for the hen house, as well as installation of the pipette drinking system.

  • 2022

    The new image

    Newly designed boxes. Improvements to the interior of the pavilion, particularly in matters related to ventilation and air conditioning.
